In 2012, the airline committed to better serving its passengers with improved connectivity. So it set about adjusting its domestic schedules and, with the airport’s help to streamline processes, reduced minimum connection times to as little as 35 minutes. By way of example, a passenger wanting to travel to Aberdeen from Southampton, has a choice of up to four connecting flights a day via Manchester – with a total point to point travel time of just three hours! By rail, this would take 10 hours with three station changes.

Flybe’s Manchester hub has proved of particular benefit not only to those travelling on the airline’s own network, but, just as importantly, created additional opportunities for connections to global destinations offered with many of Flybe’s codeshare partners operating out of Manchester to locations including Abu Dhabi, Chicago, and Toronto.

Its value received an additional boost recently with the announcement by Virgin Atlantic to increase its codeshare agreement with Flybe at Manchester. Now, Scottish travellers have more access to the USA and the Caribbean than ever before, taking advantage of Flybe’s route between Manchester and Glasgow. This has opened up all of Virgin Atlantic’s seven Manchester routes to customers travelling from the Scottish city for the first time that are currently Atlanta, Barbados, Boston, Las Vegas, New York, Orlando and San Francisco.

Ms Ourmières-Widener commented: “We operate more flights to and from Manchester than any other scheduled carrier and it is our largest base. Flybe is always looking at innovative ways to improve our services and be even closer to our customers so today was the perfect day to celebrate the sixth year anniversary of our hub operation here, show our ongoing commitment to our customers and to the airport by tapping into the spirit of Valentine’s Day.”

Stephen Turner, Commercial Director at Manchester Airport, said: “We are delighted to celebrate Flybe’s anniversary here today at Manchester Airport. “Flybe offers great domestic destinations here in the UK from Manchester, connecting the North West to Scotland, Northern Ireland and the South West.

“Furthermore, through the airline’s many codeshares with our long-haul carriers, we really are the global gateway in the North for the 22m people who live in our catchment area. We look forward to continuing to grow with Flybe and provide options for all our passengers whether they want to travel from Belfast to Beijing or Southampton to Seattle.”

Isle of Man, Online Regional Travel Group’s CEO Simon Goddard comments: “In business it pays to make the right connection. The vast array of onward connections offered from Manchester with many of the leading global airlines, means our business and leisure travellers have stress free journeys to the destination of their choice every time. With Flybe’s choice of up to five flights daily from the Isle of Man, Manchester is the most convenient UK hub for islanders and is of significant importance to our clients.”

Glasgow-based Richard Nicol, Supplier Relations Manager with Clyde Travel Management is also a fan of Flybe’s Manchester hub. “Manchester Airport is now a well-established international gateway with numerous direct services to worldwide destinations. Over the past six years, Flybe has played a major role in this achievement by investing in strategical links throughout the UK offering consumers an attractive option to Manchester and beyond with seamless connections via their long haul partners. Flybe’s significant investment since 2012 has better connected regional areas of the UK while offering travellers a short cut to the world.”

Peruvian Airlines (P9)

https://www.apg-ga.hk/news1/peruvian-airlines-p98548091

https://www.apg-ga.hk/news1/peruvian-airlines-p98548091#comments

Peruvian Airlines (P9)

Discover Peru - Arequipa The White City offers imposing mountains, volcanoes like EI Misti, deep canyons as Colca, a renowned cuisine and more. In pre-Hispanic times this region was inhabited by Collaguas; today, the inhabitants have learned to conserve their colonial churches such as those in Yanque, Lari and Madrigal and they continue to dress with beautiful costumes. In the valley, adventure sports, such as mountain cycling, trekking and white water rafting are also practiced, and in the Cruz del Cóndor you can observe the majestic flight of the condors. Other places of interest in the department are the Petroglyphs of Toro Muerto, the valley of the volcanoes of Andagua and the Cotahuasi Canyon.

Known as the White City because of its beautiful white walls made from the volcanic stone known as “sillar”, Arequipa lies on the slopes of the imposing Chachani and Misti volcanoes and the snowcapped peak Pichu Pichu. In the center of the city, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 2000, there are colonial churches and houses with a baroque-indigenous style, as well as the Monastery of Santa Catalina, a miniature Spanish city with stone streets, beautiful patios and squares. Not only will they help you navigate but you'll get the opportunity to share their remarkable knowledge of the environment and their help in arranging village stays and paying custom fees to the local property owners.

Villages and waterfalls
Walking is a great way to experience the real Solomons and provides an opportunity to visit small villages away from the main infrastructure. Some villages such as Macedonia on Guadalcanal take just a short walk to reach but are a world away in many respects. Walk through rainforest, among tangles of vines, wild flowers and brilliant red dragonflies. Others take more effort to get to but you'll be well rewarded with a unique insight into the history and traditions including headhunting sites and skull shrines.

The topography of the islands means there are also numerous spectacular waterfall walks and some can be easily combined with a village visit. The Mataniko Falls are a popular attraction, cascading over boulders and into pools before thundering down into a hidden cave. The Borare cascades also put on a magnificent display with beautiful pools to plunge into.

Coasts
Wander the striking sunlit coral atolls or follow winding trails along the edge of the rugged volcanic islands - in such an extensive archipelago, opportunities to explore the magical coastline are virtually limitless. Keep an eye out for the sparkle of blue kingfishers, hornbills and megapodes nestled into the undergrowth.

A multi day tour of the Gatokae Weather Coast is one of many stunning trips showcasing the Solomon's remote rugged coastal scenery, little known valleys and unique headhunting history, kastom sites and stories.

Mountains and volcanoes
The Solomons include some surprisingly mountainous terrain including active and extinct volcanoes. The adventurous may be able to take a tour up to the old lava flows on Tinakula, the Solomon Island's most active volcano. Uninhabited and very remote, it's an unforgettable experience.

The majestic peak of Kolombangara in the Western Province is another perfect cone-shaped volcano and well worth the climb. A long steep trek will take you up into cloud forest with impressive views and remarkable rainforest vegetation, sustainably managed by the local community.

Similar spectacular views are available from Mt Mariu, on Gatokae Island in New Georgia, looking down over the exquisite Marovo Lagoon. Walking through the low altitude mossy cloud forest can be both eerie and utterly sublime.

RwandAir (WB)

https://www.apg-ga.hk/news1/rwandair-wb1803204

https://www.apg-ga.hk/news1/rwandair-wb1803204#comments

RwandAir (WB)

Airline Highlight - Rwandair Operations on 1st December 2002 as the new national carrier under the name Rwandair Express (passenger air transportation as the core activity) for Rwanda with a concession to carry out airport ground handling (ancillary activity) at Kigali International Airport. In March 2009, we registered a new trademark “RwandAir” which is our current operating name.Operating from Kigali as our hub at the heart of Africa, RwandAir is one of [...]

Airline Highlight - Rwandair

Operations on 1st December 2002 as the new national carrier under the name Rwandair Express (passenger air transportation as the core activity) for Rwanda with a concession to carry out airport ground handling (ancillary activity) at Kigali International Airport.

In March 2009, we registered a new trademark “RwandAir” which is our current operating name.

Operating from Kigali as our hub at the heart of Africa, RwandAir is one of the fastest growing airlines and operates one of the youngest and state of the art fleet on the African continent which comprises of four Boeing 737-800NG, two Boeing 737-700NG, two CRJ900NG, two Bombardier Q-400NG all in dual class configuration and two new triple class Airbus A330.

The airline, which is also well reputed for an excellent on time performance, reaches out to twenty-two cities in Western,Central, Eastern and Southern Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

RwandAir is a member airline of the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) , an EASA,IOSA and ISAGO certified operator.

Flybe (BE)

https://www.apg-ga.hk/news1/flybe-be1802334

https://www.apg-ga.hk/news1/flybe-be1802334#comments

Flybe (BE)

New route between London Southend and Antwerp Flybe announced a new international route connecting London Southend and Antwerp. It is one of the main tourist and commercial cities of the Peruvian Amazon and it is the 20th city of Peru. It is known as the City of the Palm Trees.

When the Spaniards arrived, the town of Cumbazas existed in the valley of Tarapoto. Its inhabitants were exterminated by war when they presented resistance. According to legend, a family which took part in the fight survived this disaster. Once they were exterminated, their children (a boy and a girl) took refuge in the hills; the Apu God took pity on the orphans, and made the boy a strong and robust bull and the girl a beautiful butterfly; they both took refuge in the forests of the cerro escalera. The pain and sadness produced in them uncontrollable crying. The bull cried so much that its tears became the Shilcayo River. The beautiful and native butterfly came down from the hills to observe the ruin of her town. A Spanish archer was fascinated by her beauty when he saw her and did not hesitate to catch her, and the wounded butterfly fell to the ground becoming the lagoon of Suchiche, which is the origin of Tarapoto.

Tarapoto is 353 m.a.s.l. and the Province of San Martín varies from 120 m.a.s.l. to more than 1,600 m.a.s.l. The average daily temperature is 29°C with a variation of 18°C to 34°C. With more than 850 flights per month to Africa, Royal Air Maroc has the broadest presence across the continent of any airline," said Abdelhamid Addou, CEO and Chairman of Royal Air Maroc. He added, "Our vision is to be the leading airline in Africa in terms of quality of service, quality of planes and connectivity. Ordering new-generation planes such as the Dreamliner puts our airline on the right track to fulfill our vision."

"Royal Air Maroc's additional 787 orders are a terrific endorsement of the Dreamliner's economic performance, fuel efficiency and unrivalled passenger experience," said Ihssane Mounir, senior vice president of Global Sales and Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Expanding the relationship between our companies that began nearly 50 years ago, Boeing is proud to support Royal Air Maroc's growth plans within Africa and further connect Morocco to the world."

Royal Air Maroc is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Its fleet includes more than 56 Boeing airplanes, including 737s, 767-300ERs, 787s and a 747-400. The Casablanca-based carrier operates a domestic network throughout Morocco and serves more than 80 destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, North America and South America.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a family of super-efficient airplanes with new passenger-pleasing features. The 787-9's fuselage is stretched by 20 feet (6 meters) over the 787-8 and can fly 290 passengers up to 14,140 kilometers in a typical two-class configuration. The 787's unparalleled fuel efficiency – reducing fuel use and carbon emissions by 20 percent compared to airplanes it replaces – and range flexibility enable carriers to profitably open new routes and optimize fleet and network performance. To serve passengers, the Dreamliner offers large, dimmable windows, large stow bins, modern LED lighting, higher humidity, a lower cabin altitude, cleaner air and a smoother ride.

Boeing also is a longstanding partner to Morocco, supporting the country's development of its aerospace industry and workforce. Boeing and Safran are joint venture partners in Morocco Aero-Technical Interconnect Systems (MATIS) Aerospace in Casablanca, a high-quality supplier that employs more than 1,000 people building wire bundles and wire harnesses for Boeing and other aerospace companies.

Aigle Azur (ZI)

https://www.apg-ga.hk/news1/aigle-azur-zi

https://www.apg-ga.hk/news1/aigle-azur-zi#comments

Aigle Azur (ZI)

Destination Highlight - Bejaia Béjaïa stands on the edge of the Mediterranean and has a rich history - it’s one of the oldest cities in Algeria. The capital of Kabylia has become famous for its beeswax candles - indeed this is where the French word for “candle” – “bougie” - comes from. You’ll be able to see the remains of the fortified walls of the Porte Fouka, the Fort Moussa, the Casbah, the Porte [...]

Destination Highlight - Bejaia

Béjaïa stands on the edge of the Mediterranean and has a rich history - it’s one of the oldest cities in Algeria. The capital of Kabylia has become famous for its beeswax candles - indeed this is where the French word for “candle” – “bougie” - comes from.

You’ll be able to see the remains of the fortified walls of the Porte Fouka, the Fort Moussa, the Casbah, the Porte Dorée, the Roman Citerne and the Roman Cippe, a tombstone.
