Destination Highlight - BejaiaBéjaïa stands on the edge of the Mediterranean and has a rich history - it’s one of the oldest cities in Algeria. The capital of Kabylia has become famous for its beeswax candles - indeed this is where the French word for “candle” – “bougie” - comes from. You’ll be able to see the remains of the fortified walls of the Porte Fouka, the Fort Moussa, the Casbah, the Porte Dorée, the Roman Citerne and the Roman Cippe, a tombstone. Nature lovers won’t want to miss the chance to go for a stroll in Gouraya national park, listed as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, and will then be able to go to Cape Carbon. The path which leads there runs along some superb coves.
